Yeast Statistics

Postby emuron » Mon Apr 09, 2007 2:05 pm

I think im in a real pickle.

One of the section in the coursework talks about using a statistical test.

Now Ive looked at the T Test, Chi Squared and Man Whitney U but unless im mistaken they are all used for only two groups (dependant [CO2 production and independant[substrate]).

Is there any statistical test which includes all of the groups, or am I thinking about this in the wrong way?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Well this advice is probably way to late but I'll reply anyway

The T test does only compare two substrates. I had this issue and my teacher said to just do it a few times to compare the substrates- so I did it once for glucose v fructose, again for glucose v sucrose and for fructose v sucrose.

hope that's helpful for someone out there....

Hiya, I'm not sure if it helps at all, (it probably doesn't), BUT...

For mine I compared substrate with CO2 production and I did standard error and standard deviation for my statistical tests. If you organise it into a table with the stages of calculations down one side and the substrates across the top etc, it's pretty easy/fast to do the calculations for every substrate.

Then I worked out the 95% confidence limits and plotted them on a graph with error bars.

Hope it helps!
